The elite of Thiruvalla, arguably the educational and cultural capital of the former Travancore state, had to go to the neighbouring towns whenever they wanted to spend their leisure in a relaxed atmosphere. So, the need of a socio-recreational club in Thiruvalla itself had been felt by many in town for a long time.
Finally, a group of youngsters with support and supervision of elders put an idea for a social club at Thiruvalla. The reasons for the development of the club are many. Of the first, there is no recreation facility in and around Thiruvalla. There is not even a park for relaxation. All these in mind, a group of citizens gathered to form a club at the heart of Thiruvalla.
A Dream Comes Realistic…
A group of pioneers who took initiative consisted of Jacob Kattassery, Thomas Koshy, Dr.George Varghese, K.P.Varghese, Joseph Chacko, K.V.Mathew, Prasad Thomas Kodiyat. The group pledged themselves to do the needful and christened the club in the making The Travancore Club.
The Travancore club was formed and conceived on 17th August1994 (Chingam1). In the beginning the club activities were held on hired premises in Kizhakkummuri with restaurant facility, later procured its own area measuring about seven acres of land, at Perunthuruthy.
The foundation stone of the club complex was laid by Shrimati Her. Highness ASWATHI THIRUNAL GAURI PARVATI BHAI in the esteemed presence of several VIPs and eminent personalities.
Jacob Kattassery was the Founder Secretary of this club. His dedication and commitment helped a lot in the development of the club.
The Club A brief History
The Travancore Club was registered as a Society under the T.C.S C Societies act of 1955 on 28th November 1994. 18 founding members signed the memorandum of association. It’s Founder President was Mr. Jacob Cherian (Pamala Chacochen). The Club functioned in the initial period in a rented building at Kavumbhagom, until it was moved to the present location. It started functioning with a restaurant and indoor games facility. The Club has now about 6 acres of land situated about 3 kms north of Tiruvalla and 4 kms south of Changanacherry, on the MC Road. Over the last ten years the Club added a Mini Hall, a modern flood lit Tennis Court, two Indoor Shuttle Courts with two bath-attached rooms, a beautiful lawn with a permanent outdoor stage. The Club has now more than 600 members.
With the addition of the Guest House and the Gymnasium, our Club now has all the essential facilities of a good Club. The permit room and a good restaurant are functional at the Club House. Many improvements will be in place shortly. Much larger number of members are using the Club facilities now.The Floodlit Tennis court and the two Indoor Shuttle facilities are well utilized, both in the morning and evening, every day. The Gymnasium is functional and will now be organized as a separate wing with a Member in Charge. On a similar basis the players will also organize and assume responsibility for the Cards activity. The indoor activity will be resumed, including Table tennis, in the newly assigned places. The beautiful Lawn, the permanent outdoor stage and the Mini Hall, put to regular use.With the landscaping and garden improvements, the Club will shortly have a new look and will be one of the best Clubs in Kerala with in a beautiful location with the largest land area.
